Rules made stricter for adventure sports: Maharashtra government
Taking into account the recent tragedies, the state government has decided to make rules and pre-conditions stricter for holding adventure sports events.
The sports department of the state has came out with government decision-making permissions from apex bodies relating to concerned adventure sports as mandatory.
A youngster had died in a recent mishap during trekking expedition in Himalayas organised by an organisation. The parents of the deceased had approached High Court after their son's death and the High Court had directed state government to issue guidelines and policy in this regard.
The commissioner for sports had prepared detailed policy which has been approved by state Government and has issued Government resolution (GR) in this regard. Registered organisations or institutes while organising such events for commercial purpose would have to abide by guidelines of Union Ministry of Tourism and would have to ensure their registration is availed while organising such events. The organisations would have to avail permission from forest department if such events are organised in reserved forest areas and prior permission from director general of Civil Aviation would be needed for organising adventure sports for aviation related events. For events pertaining to sea permission from Maritime board would be needed.
